Timm Oberwelland, born 1969 in Bielefeld, Germany, is an actor, producer and director.
After graduating summa cum laude from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los
Angeles in 1994 he co-founded the LA-based production company Zeal Pictures. Over the next
10 years Timm produced and directed a variety of music videos, commercials and feature films,
including SIMPATICO, starring Jeff Bridges, Nick Nolte and Sharon Stone, as well as the TV-series AMERICAN FIGHTER PILOT, executive produced by Tony and Ridley Scott.
He is a founding partner of Berlin-based Syrreal Entertainment, through which he has produced
a string of feature films and television programs, including the first ever German Netflix series
DOGS OF BERLIN.
In 2015 he – along with two partners – took over TOBIS Film, one of Germany’s leading
independent film distribution companies, through which he has since released more than 30
international feature films in Germany and Austria while also starting up TOBIS Film’s
production department in 2017.
Its first production, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WORLD, was a critical and commercial hit, garnering three German Film Academy Award nominations and winning the Bavarian Film Award in 2019. In 2019 TOBIS also entered the television production arena with the German series SLØBORN, a co-production with Syrreal Entertainment and German public broadcaster
ZDF.
This was followed by CATWEAZLE, starring Otto Waalkes, Julius Weckauf, Katja Riemann and
Henning Baum, which won the audience award of the Bavarian Film Award
Timm is a member of the German Film Academy, the European Film Academy as well as the
Screen Actors Guild.
